Collaboration is crucial for the success of teams and companies. But especially in the age of the Internet and remote work, we have to break new ground here. Meetings take place online and direct, synchronous communication between team members becomes more difficult. But fortunately there are tools to fill these gaps.
Until now, many different tools had to be combined: Slack for chat communication, Skype for Business or Google Hangouts for voice and video communication and OneDrive or GoogleDrive for storing and organizing documents.
Microsoft Teams
With teams, Microsoft wants to provide a tool that integrates everything. Chat, video calls, file storage and project management.
Different „channels“ can be created for each team to discuss and manage topics or projects separately. For each channel tools like the Planner, OneDrive or OneNote can be activated.
In the chat you can communicate in threads to discuss individual topics in a contiguous way. In addition, documents can be directly linked from the corresponding OneDrive Folder.

The Planner is a KanBan style project management tool like Trello.

Teams will unite all Microsoft products and replace Skype for Business completely. But there is still a long way to go – after all, Skype for Business 2019 has still been announced.
In the future I will tell you a bit more about the use of teams in our company.
